I wanted to bring you all up-to-date on my first ever X Games experience. This was my first time ever competing in such a high caliber event. It was a amazing to finally experience the X Games from a competitors point of view. My life long dream as a kid has been to compete in the X Games and it finally came true! And even better, I got my first silver medal! I competed in slopestyle on Thursday and ended up coming in second place! It had to be one fo the best days of my life. X Games is like no other competition because of all the extra media and hype surrounding it. The atmosphere was electric the whole time.
It was an uplifting feeling to finally stand on the podium at the biggest event of the year. Now that things have settled down a little bit, I have retreated back to Breckenridge Colorado to keep skiing until the next contest. The next adventure will be the third and final stop of the Dew Tour in Snowbasin, Utah. I can't wait until then!
I haven't updated my blog since New Zealand... I know, you don't have to tell me, I'm lazy. We all get lazy sometimes I'm sure. You have to forgive me. After New Zealand, I spent two weeks training in Park City Utah and then drove back up to Windells to attend the first week of the 2011/2012 school year! If you didn't know, Mt. Hood has glacier snow available all year long so we were actually SKIING the first week of school. In September!. Yeah I know, pretty freakin' sweet if you ask me. After the first week of school I went home to Indana to hang out with friends and family for a week and a half. You know that feeling you get when you can't stop smiling because you're so happy? Well that's how I always feel when I'm stepping off the plane onto Indiana soil. You gotta love the Midwest.

Now my adventures have lead me to Toronto Canada for a few days of trampoline training. Then on Thursday, I head back to Windells for the remainder of school until Thanksgiving! Winter is getting closer and closer, keep your fingers crossed for a good snow year. CAN WAIT FOR THE SNOW TO FALL!!

Nick Goepperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16665364095034626694noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832813622085930578.post-64671499612542198662011-08-18T22:26:00.000-07:002011-08-18T22:26:51.673-07:00New Zealand Winter Games SlopestyleHello everyone,
I've been having a great time with my buddy Lyman Currier whom I traveled down with. The past 4 days have been non stop skiing and having a great time. Unfortunately, the weather gods decided to poop on New Zealand the majority of the last week, but the last two days it cleared up and the weather has been sunny and perfect.
So far, we have competed in the halfpipe and slopestyle of the New Zealand Winter Games. Halfpipe didn't go so well and I ended up with an 8th place finish. Halfpipe day was a nightmare. There were gloomy clouds hanging over Cardrona ski resort all day and made it extremely difficult to see in the halfpipe. However, the next day I managed to place 3rd in slopestyle over at Snow Park. The weather cleared up the next day for the slopestyle event and we were graced with lots of sun and no wind. The event went great. The Kiwi's sure can put on a good contest!
(Dear Old Dad)Hey everyone. These past few days have bee great. Why have they been great you might ask? Well my dad came to visit me in Oregon! Pops made the trip out from Indiana to Oregon for three days to hang out with me at Windells. I had to show him around though because he had never been to Windells before. We went on a couple hikes, explored the city if Portland, and enjoyed scenic views of Mt. Hood.

Here's dad enjoying his first time on Mt. Hood.
My life is wild and I'm glad I can share it with the rest of the world. I've been through a bunch since I last posted about West Coast Sessions. Since the end of West Coast sessions I've enjoyed some time at home, learned some new tricks at Windells, participated in a wicked photoshoot, broken my arm, and braved a ski mountaineering camp in Tioga Pass California. It never seems to stop. I'd like to give you a full re-cap on what's been going on this past month. Lets start with my time at home.

Immediately after West Coast Sessions, I caught a plane from Portland back to Indiana to visit my family for two and a half weeks. It was a great visit. I was ecstatic to finally re-unite with my friends and family back home after a wild winter. There was only one problem though. I came home with the UGLIEST goggle tan from the slopes. My parent even forced me to endure church one morning with me looking like a fool. My little brother can vouch for me on that.

After Hanging out with friends and family for a while, I flew back out to Windells to start my summer skiing season. Although, at first it sure didn't seem like summer...

Unfortunately, when I was nearing the end of the second camp session last week, I came up short on a jump and broke my arm. I had a mountaineering camp planned immediately after the second session Tioga Pass California but that didn't stop me from going. The mountaineering camp I attended with Alpine Skills International from Lake Tahoe was an experience I'll never forget. It was difficult and physically demanding but well worth it. Me and a group of about 9 kids along with 2 mountain guides explored and conquered all kinds of different zones in Tioga Pass. The highlight was our overnight climb on the Dana glacier. Here are some photos

Following the mountaineering camp was a series of doctors appointments and a surgery and lots of laying around waiting for the pain to subside in my arm. The pain is gone and the days are back to normal again here in Oregon. The healing process is underway and not it's just up to my body and time before I can get back to 100%. I'll be skiing in about a week but keeping it mellow. Check back to the blog for more updates soon.

Some of the best skiers in the world all congregated near Mt. Hood Oregon to session one of the sickest parks/jumps in the world for 4 days. The outcome was spectacular. This year was the best West Coast Session to date. I hope it never goes away! Enjoy the photos and videos of the amazing experience.
I'm really far behind and in order to be school-free this summer, I need to catch up. The Red Bull camp last week in Squaw Valley was fabulous. Although, we didn't have very favorable weather, I had a ton of fun and got my foot in the door with red Bull. We did get two solid days on snow where I learned some new tricks and skied some halfpipe. I arrived in Portland Oregon two days ago to come back to Windells for a week. Next week we have the West Coast Sessions shoot planned at Timberline ski resort. West Coast Sessions is an annual film/photo shoot event held at Mt. Hood every year. Usually, a number of highly ranked skiers are invited out to participate and get shots. I participated last year and got to ski in my first ever sunset shoot! Hopefully the same thing will happen this year and we can produce some good results. They're building some crazy features for us on the mountain right now! Here is a shot from last year. Stay tuned for more coverage.
It was probably one of the most fun contests I have done all year. Spring slush, sunshine, friends, and epic chicken wings make for a good time. High Fives is a local organization in Lake Tahoe dedicated to aiding injured or underprivileged skiers back to full time. They throw a big air contest every spring to help raise money for charity. The whole day is full of big tricks and big trains. Especially big trains. Here are a few photos from the experience and a video to enlighten you.
Right now I'll be at Squaw Valley for the next week training at the Red Bull performance camp. Expect big things! It's already off to a good start! I love it here. The last time I was here was in January for the first stop of the North Face Open Parks and Pipes Series at Northstar resort. Well let me just say that since then, Tahoe has been getting TONS of snow. The main reason I'm in Tahoe now is for the annual Volkl High Fives big air event at Alpine Meadows ski resort along with the Red Bull training camp at Squaw Valley. Every year Volkl Skis sponsors a big air competition put on by the non profit organization called High Fives. High Fives is a group that originated in Tahoe to help disabled skiers continue to do what they love out on the slopes. Volkl usually brings out some of their athletes every year to partake in the event. I was fortunate enough to be acknowledged by Volkl to join the High Fives crew this year.

As part of being invited to High Fives, I was able to tag along on a private cat skiing day with the rest of the Volkl team in the Tahoe back country. I had a BLAST cat skiing for the first time today. Cat skiing is the same as skiing at a resort with epic terrain, EXCEPT without all the people and the chairlifts. It was my first tome on non-park skis since November. Pretty hard to believe huh?
It was amazing! All of my good friends were out here today shredding with me. Semis and finals took place today on a perfectly manicured course that Simon Dumont himself designed for us. Mother nature played a huge role today throughout the contest. Wind gusts were blowing the flags sideways during the contest. I'd like to thank all of my sponsors, WINDELLS ACADEMY, VOLKL SKIS, MARKER BINDINGS, SMITH OPTICS, UNDER ARMOUR, DALBELLO, DAKINE, AND SCOTT POLES. Also, big shout out to the big guy up stairs watching out for me!Nick Goepperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16665364095034626694noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832813622085930578.post-5353485388015976872011-03-19T15:01:00.000-07:002011-03-19T15:01:58.581-07:00Exhausted but StokedTaking a six hour bus ride through the alps packed in like sardines with people isn't the most comfortable journey in the world. And on top of that, having to pay thirty dollars for dinner at the airport hotel that same day isn't the most comforting feeling either. Me and my coach Mike are exhausted. We left Tignes France this morning at 12:30 via bus ride and arrived in Geneva Switzerland at 6:30. Our plane departs tomorrow for the states at 10:30. I'm sitting in my hotel room right beside the Geneva airport reminiscing on how great of a week I have had in Europe. The European X Games experience has been surreal. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back next year. I don't think I have ever eaten so much good food in one week before. The French sure know how to cook. I'll be doing another post soon with TONS of photos from Tignes. Don't take the creepy picture to the right to seriously haha.
Just wanted to let you guys know that I had a GREAT day yesterday even though I didn't make finals. There were 24 competitors in qualifying and they took the top 8 to finals. I ended up finishing 13th after my 2 runs were over. I skied my best and landed both of my runs and couldn't have been happier. I'll be cheering my friend Alex Schlopy on today in finals. It should be a great show!
A few little bobbles but it's a work in progress. I've just got to fine tune a couple things and throw in a few doubles and then I'll be good to go for Prelims tomorrow.
The course could use a few tweaks but it should be prime for our second day of training tomorrow! After training today we went to do a little freeskiing around Tignes. The western alps are like nothing I've ever skied on. Here are a couple photos to show you what I mean.
The second day of training is tomorrow and it should be good. I'm currently uploading a training run video and that should be up tomorrow haha (this internet sucks right now). Au revoir!Nick Goepperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16665364095034626694noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832813622085930578.post-76333592630368415402011-03-11T09:39:00.000-08:002011-03-11T22:12:48.450-08:00First Day in FranceWow! That is all I can say after my first full day in Europe. I don't ever think I've had a longer travel day in my entire life. On top of that, I've got about 8 hours of jet lag as I'm writing this. I left Denver this morning at 10:30 and continued to Washington DC, and then Geneva Switzerland. Me and my coach Mike Hanley arrived in Geneva this morning at about 8 a clock and then proceeded to take a 3 hour bus ride from Geneva to Tinges, France. Tinges is where the European X Games are being held. The bus ride through the French countryside was amazing. I've never seen mountains like the alps before. It was like someone took the Colorado Rockies and pumped them up on steroids and then plopped them in Eastern France. Right now it is 6 a clock in Tinges and as of now, I've been awake for 20 hours straight since I left Denver this morning. I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight! Our first day of skiing is tomorrow. Here are a few quick photos from our arrival.
Those days will consist of no skiing, homework, and physical and mental preparation for the journey. I'm about to go crazy! I want to leave right this minute. It hasn't really hit me yet that I'm headed to Tinges France for the European X Games. I don't think it will hit me until I'm flying over the French Alps in a Bowing 727 staring down at some of the biggest mountains in the world.
I apologize for not keeping the blog updated in so long. A combination of a small injury, and an uneventful 2 weeks are to blame for that. The blog should be back in full swing now though. I'm feeling much better since my little concussion 2 weeks ago at the Dew Tour and I'm skiing fairly well. Today was my first time competing since I hit my knoggen. I managed to slide into 5th place at the inaugural Winter Park Freeski Open today. I took it pretty easy in the contest and decided to save my body for my trip to the European X Games in 4 days. As of now, I'm starting to mentally and physically prepare for Euro X. It should be a great trip. Check back on the blog for updates from Europe!

Nick here, checking in from Park City Utah. This is my second day on snow in Utah this season and it was sick! I arrived here two nights ago from X Games in Aspen Colorado. Unfortunately, I was not able to compete in X Games seeing that I was an alternate for slopestyle, but I had fun! It was my first time experiencing X Games live in person. I have always watched it on TV growing up and it was unbelievable to actually be there. The next few days will be spent training here at Park City and then practice starts this Tuesday for the last stop of the Winter Dew Tour in Snow Basin, the Toyota Championships. I think I'm going to make an edit with some friends in Park City over the next few days so be on the look out for that.

For now, here is a little throwback edit. This was my first ever promo that I made at the age of 12.
Is all I can say. The amount of great things that have gone on the last 48 hours have been amazing! Killington Vermont sure did a god job and put on a great Dew Tour Show. I left Killington Vermont and flew out of Albany New York this morning and arrived in Denver for the first ever SIA (Snow Sports Industries of America) big air contest. I would like to thank all my sponsors, my parents, mother nature, and God for a great weekend in Vermont. Here is a short story that Ohio Dreams Action Sports Camp did on the experience.
It was a frigid Saturday at Killington Ski Resort in Vermont. Temperatures with wind chill reached -10 on hill. Aside from feeling like an ice cube all day, I managed to put down a solid run and qualify 4th in the slopestyle prelims today at Killington! Tomorrow NBC will air finals from 4 to 6 PM eastern time. Tune in and check it out!
Snow ExperienceThis past week mother nature has decided to wreak havoc here in Vermont. It has been snowing like crazy the last three days in the Appalachian Mountains! Training for the Dew Tour started yesterday. It was an early morning and a long drive to the venue in Killington from Mt. Snow which is about an hour and a half away.

This past week I've been training at Mt. Snow on their famous Carinthia all park mountain face. The parks as well as the people up here are great. Big thanks to you guys for supporting me! Here is a quick little video we shot over the course of the week, and introducing the first ever Windells Academy Park and Pipe Skills Enhancement Camp.
A few slot machines, some bad restaurants, and really ugly carpet is all that it really services. Although, it is fairly quiet nice to lay out and relax. Today is my last day in Lake Tahoe and marks my first day on my journey to Vermont for the 2nd stop of the Winter Dew Tour. I'm pretty bummed that we're leaving Cali, I really enjoyed it. Nice weather and beautiful mountains are a perfect combination. As I look out the window of the airport, it really hits me that we're about to venture to the ICE Coast, a place of poor weather and tiny mountains.

We're flying into Columbus, Ohio tonight and then driving to Mount Snow, Vermont to train for a week before the Dew Tour. Although it is called the ICE Coast, I always manage to have a good time there. The parks are fun and the people are always stoked. It should be a good trip. I'll blog again when we arrive in Vermont.Nick Goepperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16665364095034626694noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-832813622085930578.post-88031806561102169502011-01-09T16:22:00.000-08:002011-01-09T16:22:05.292-08:003rd Place!

Reporting from Lake Tahoe at the moment, I just got done with halfpipe at the North Face Park and Pipe Open Series. I'm not much of a halfpipe skier yet... but I try my best. The highlight of the weekend was my third place finish yesterday in slopestyle finals. I managed to make it through semi finals and then through finals with my runs. The competition was insane! So many awesome riders were out here. Props to everyone who was out here. Everybody killed it! Thanks to my parents, my sponsors, and God for helping me out this weekend!
